HELP GLOBAL START LOCAL

Creating Opportunities, Changing Lives

NATURE

PRESERVE & PROTECT

Healthy ecosystems are the foundation of all life. With its mangrove reforestation project in northwest Bali, One Chance is helping to protect coastlines, preserve nature, and conserve habitats, as well as create sustainable sources of income for the local population.

ANIMALS

PRESERVE HABITATS

Nature conservation also means preserving habitats for animals. With the mangrove project and sustainable agriculture by the local community, One Chance is helping to preserve natural refuges—for example, for a variety of crabs.

PEOPLE

SUPPORT & STRENGTHEN

One Chance provides access to education and supports social and sustainable ventures, creates prospects and helps people build a reliable source of income.

One Chance for families in need

Since 2024, One Chance has been helping families in need from the Sari Hati School Community in the Gianyar region with in-kind donations, as the money isn't enough for the basic necessities of everyday life—a clean bed, a tight roof, a closet, or a toilet. We call it an Act of Kindness. One Chance wants to help many more families in this way.

One Chance for Parahyangen Green Recycle (PGR)

Pak Pande of PGR in Payangan (Central Bali) converted his private residence into a waste disposal facility during the pandemic. There, he employs a waste sorting team that would otherwise have few job opportunities. One Chance has been supporting PGR since 2023 by funding salaries, training, and awareness-raising efforts.

One Chance for the PKP Community Centre

The PKP Community Centre in Payangan (Central Bali) provides shelter, training, and integration into social activities for traumatized women from Bali and other Indonesian islands to support their gradual rehabilitation. We have been supporting the PKP Community Centre with a monthly contribution since 2021.

One Chance
for
Risa

Since 2020, One Chance has been supporting Risa, who lost her parents during the pandemic, and covering her school fees. Starting in January 2025, One Chance will enable her to train as a nurse at Fuji Academy Bali in Japan. Her success is intended to open similar opportunities for other young people.

One Chance
for social business

Social Business Angels from One Chance have been supporting the initial investment for the motorcycle rental service at Sari Hati School in Ubud since 2025. The project supports the school community and generates long-term funds for the land purchase. The Social Business Angels decide which social projects will receive 17% of the return. One Chance will continue to rely on social business as a model of support that benefits both parties and enables mutual learning.

ONE Chance For
the Sari Hati School

Since 2023, One Chance has been funding the salaries of four mothers at the Sari Hati School in Ubud who care for their children with special needs. It's a win-win situation: The mothers can be with their children while simultaneously having a valuable job and earning money through their work at the school. There are many more families waiting for a school place for their child.

ONE Chance For THE Wana Mertha Community

Wana Mertha manages 67 hectares with over 30 mangrove species in northwest Bali (Jembrana) and operates a social restaurant serving local specialties. In addition to sustainable tourism, Wana Mertha plans to establish a sustainable crab farm and a birdwatching observation platform. Close collaboration with local authorities and partners like One Chance ensures long-term ecological and economic benefits for the community.

One Chance
for Bendega

Bendega protects and reforests mangroves in Java, Bali and Lombok to preserve ecosystems and secure the income of local fishermen and farmers.

We have been supporting Bendega as a sustainable start-up since 2022. Until 2026, we will jointly monitor the growth of the mangroves with data on tree height, diameter, leaf count, and reforestation.

One Chance
for mangroves

Mangroves store 5–10 times more carbon than land-based forests – for decades to millennia. One Chance aims to plant mangroves specifically according to local people's needs. The reforestation pilot project with 3,000 seedlings in November 2025, with Bendega, Wana Mertha, and the local government, will run for two years. In the long term, we aim to plant 10,000 mangroves. Cost per seedling: approximately €1.30 (including two years of monitoring and reporting).

FROM BAVARIA TO BALI

THE PEOPLE BEHIND ONE CHANCE

The seven founding members from Bavaria and Bali work together for people, nature and animals.

What began as a spontaneous fundraising campaign became a long-term mission. During their family year in Bali from July 2019 to August 2020, Ernst and Dian Flügel experienced the island's challenges firsthand. Upon returning to Germany, they founded the association One Chance eV together with five dedicated friends to bring about lasting change. Since 2021, Ernst and Dian Flügel have been living in Bali again, supporting projects in the south, northwest, and central Bali (Gianyar region), and working closely with the local community.

Founders from left to right: Alexandra Ott, Nicole Ebner-Smijanic, Peter Knoll, Dian Flügel, Axel Dechamps, Ernst Flügel, Stiev Stoll.
